The Gotham Steel Pan has been I don’t know about you, but I HATE washing the dishes, let alone dirty pots and pans.
Using a good set of cookware with nonstick feature will not only help you serve better meals but will also make cleaning a more pleasant experience.
A lot of nonstick cookware out in the market vow to make your life in the kitchen a walk in the park, but end up not living up to your expectations.
Luckily, the Gotham steel pan not only lives up to the hype when it comes cooking, but it’s super easy to clean as well

What do you need to know about the Gotham Steel Pan?
Gotham Steel Pan is endorsed by Daniel Green, an internationally known celebrity chef specializing in healthy eating and is passionate about flavor and weight loss. He believes that “fat is not flavor”. Chef Daniel has prepared private dinners for the likes of the eldest Princess of Thailand, US Ambassadors and people who love food that are low in carbohydrates, fats and calories but full of flavor, which he calls “guilt-free food”.
Claiming to be a cookware made using the latest technology, Gotham Steel boasts that it is:
- strong and durable
- scratch resistant
- distributes heat evenly
- doesn’t need butter or oil
- oven-safe
- dishwasher-safe
- easy to clean
Let’s discuss each of these features one by one.
Strong and Durable
The Gotham steel pan is a cookware made with reinforced ceramic and titanium.
Reinforced ceramic is scratch-resistant, completely non-reactive and non-stick, making it a perfect cooking surface.
Titanium is a durable material that is safe to use in both gas and electric stoves. The thickness of its material makes it very sturdy.
Scratch Resistant
They say you can use metal utensils with the Gotham Steel and you won’t need to worry about scratching it.
Well, I’m not too sure about this. I believe that using metal utensils will shorten the life of a nonstick pan.
Just like a lot of home cooks, I don’t really mind using silicon, nylon, wooden or bamboo utensils in my cookware. Aside from the fact that I think they look better in my kitchen, I know they will help me preserve the life of my nonstick pans as well.
Distributes Heat Evenly
I value efficiency and I like to do more things in a shorter span of time. If I can do that with my cooking, that would be great! Being able to spend less time in the kitchen gives me more freedom to do other important things.
Since the Gotham Steel distributes heat evenly, I am able to cook my food a lot faster.
With the Gotham Steel, not only can you save time, but you’ll also save money on gas or electricity.
Doesn’t Need Butter Or Oil
I like perfectly cooked “sunny-side up” eggs and with the Gotham Steel, it’s just a breeze as the eggs just slide right off the pan.
Due to its nonstick coating, you can fry eggs and cook other food without using any butter or oil.
You can also melt cheese, make fajitas, and cook steak with no problem.
People who are conscious about their health and are careful about their fat intake would definitely love preparing their food using the Gotham Steel Pan.
Oven-safe
If you love baking, you can also use the Gotham Steel Pan to make your favorite desserts without needing a separate pan.
In the infomercial, Chef Daniel Green even made smores using the Gotham Steel.
This pan is safe to use in the oven for up to 500 degrees but be sure to use an oven mitt when taking it out. The handle is made of steel and may heat up.
Dishwasher-safe
Unlike most nonstick cookware, the Gotham Steel can be safely tossed into the dishwasher.
Although I like the fact that it is dishwasher-safe, I still personally prefer washing it the traditional way. After all, the clean up for the Gotham Steel is fairly easy.
Easy To Clean
If you’re like me and you hate scrubbing, you won’t have that problem with the Gotham Steel Pan. The nonstick coating of Gotham Steel is really helpful in preventing food from sticking to it.
As a result, you can easily wipe it with a paper towel or you can use a mild dishwashing soap and a soft cloth or sponge to clean it.
Is the Gotham Steel Pan safe to use?
The Gotham Steel Pan is PTFE, PFOA, and PFOS-free.
So, what does this mean?
There used to be a controversy with the safety of nonstick cookware.
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), the best-known brand name of which is Teflon, has been used to coat nonstick frypans and saucepans in the past. The controversy centered on perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), a chemical used in the production of Teflon until 2013.
PFOA and PFOS have been linked to a number of health conditions including thyroid disorders, chronic kidney disease, liver disease, and testicular cancer.
Because these chemicals were associated with nonstick pans, some people have a negative perception when it comes to nonstick cookware.
However, this is mostly a thing of the past. Technology has evolved and a lot of nonstick cookware like the Gotham Steel adapted to the change.
The Gotham steel is made with reinforced ceramic. Unlike Teflon, the non-stick properties of ceramic are natural making it free from harmful chemicals. This means that it is safe to use, and therefore a great choice for your family.
Gotham Steel Pan Reviews
People have varying opinions about the Gotham Steel Pan.
While some absolutely love it and say it’s a great deal especially with its price, others believe it’s a flop and just a waste of their money. I personally think that its value and effectiveness depends on how you use it, but that it can be a great pan for the money.
In the infomercial, Chef Daniel Green said cooking with Gotham steel is like cooking on air! “Everything slides right off!” In my search for customer feedback, I noticed that a lot of the negative comments were directed towards the slide test. Many of those who tried, failed.
In most Gotham Steel Pan reviews, the slide test was done while the bottom of the egg was still uncooked. Thus, they failed. However, there were some who succeeded with the slide test. The difference? They waited for the eggs to be cooked before doing the “slide”.
Some other negative feedback seems to be related to the improper use and care of the Gotham Steel Pan. So, this brings me to my next point.
How Do You Clean and Take Care of Your Nonstick Pan?
Just like anything else, you also have to take care of your cookware if you want it to last longer and the Gotham Steel Pan is not an exception.
Here are a few important care tips that you need to know:
Only cook under medium heat.
Ideally, you should only be cooking on medium heat as high heat can damage the nonstick coating of your pan.
Never use cooking sprays.
The use of a cooking spray creates a build up in the pan over time that is very hard to remove and will ruin the surface of your pan.
Store your pans properly.
When not in use, I recommend you hang your pans, with plenty of space between them.
Stacking pans on top of each other can potentially scratch the nonstick surface of your cookware.
Avoid sudden temperature changes.
Sudden temperature changes can cause warping and damage the nonstick coating of your pan. To prevent this from happening, you should let your pan cool before washing it.
Do not use abrasive cleaning materials.
It’s also important to note that you should not use abrasive materials like scouring pads when cleaning your nonstick pan.
Some people just wipe it using a paper towel but you can also use a sponge and a mild dishwashing soap to clean it.
Do not use metal utensils.
Some negative feedbacks for the Gotham Steel are related to scratches caused by metal utensils.
Although Gotham Steel is advertised as safe to use with metal utensils, I strongly recommend that you steer away from them as much as possible.
It may be scratch free but certainly not to the point where you could deliberately and intentionally scratch it with a metal like a fork, which most negative reviewers did.
Aside from these essential care tips, you can also choose to season your pan occasionally.
How To Season Gotham Steel Nonstick Pans
I’ve seen some people do this with their Gotham Steel Pans after several months of use and claimed that their pans performed better post-seasoning.
Here are the simple steps that you can follow:
- Wash your pan clean and wipe it dry.
- Season your pan lightly by rubbing vegetable, canola, or groundnut oil onto the nonstick surface. You can use a paper towel to spread the oil evenly.
- IMPORTANT: NEVER use olive oil for seasoning.
- Side note: Olive oil is light and heating it above its smoking point will cause it to carbonize on the surface of the pan, creating a dark-colored build up that is really difficult to remove.
- After greasing, heat the frying pan over the medium setting on a burner for about 1-2 minutes or until it smokes. You can also put it in the oven at 300 degrees for about 20 minutes.
- Once the oil cools and dries, wipe any excess oil from the pan with a paper towel.
Your pan is now perfectly seasoned and ready to show off its “nonstick feature” again.
Gotham Copper Pans & Cookware
There is no such thing as Gotham Copper Pans or Gotham Copper Cookware. However, the Gotham Steel is often confused with another product, the Red Copper Pan.
The two pans look exactly alike and you can barely tell the difference between the two while facing front. They have the same copper-colored finish and have the same handle as well.
You will only be able to tell them apart once you flip them over. The bottom of the Red Copper Pan is red while the Gotham Steel has a dark grey color to it.
Both pans are also well known for their quick & safe nonstick cooking properties and easy cleaning.
Conclusion
The Gotham Steel may not be the best nonstick cookware but it definitely lived up to my expectations, and offers a great cooking and cleaning experience for the price.
It’s safe to use and easy to clean with no scrubbing required.
It allows me to serve healthier meals since I do not need to use butter or oil when cooking.
I can even toss it in the oven and won’t need a separate pan for baking.
With proper use and care, the Gotham Steel can be your kitchen companion for quite a while too.
Given the benefits that you can get and the inexpensive price that comes with it, I recommend that you save Gotham Steel a space in your kitchen.
